Sysmex Asia Pacific CSR 2017 – Ice Cream Making with MVS
As part of our continuing efforts to reach out and engage the local community, Sysmex Asia Pacific (SAP) recently held its annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) event with Mountbatten Vocational School (MVS), an institute which provides vocational training to youths with learning disabilities.
On 8 September 2017, during the school term holidays, 74 SAP staff members gathered with 20 students and 4 teaching staff from MVS at SAP office for an afternoon of fun and enriching activities: An ice-cream making workshop!
Following an inspiring opening address by Mr. Frank Buescher, Chief Executive Officer and President of SAP, the staff and students were taught the basics of ice-cream making by hand. In their respective teams, the staff and students then partnered together to create their own flavors and presentations of ice-cream. Much to everyone’s delight, the event also featured a free flow ice-cream and fresh waffles buffet with unlimited toppings.
3 teams eventually emerged winners for the most innovative, delicious and beautifully presented ice-cream creations and the winning MVS students were awarded prizes. At the end of the event, a corporate donation of $7,500 from SAP was presented by Mr. Frank Buescher to Ms. Wong Kar Leng, representative and teacher of MVS. In addition, our spirited SAP staff raised a total of $4,000 in individual donations for MVS towards acquiring a professional barista machine for the training of the students – this was presented to Ms. Wong as well.
In the closing address, Ms. Wong expressed her heartfelt thanks on behalf of MVS. In her words: “The donations will go a long way in making a difference to the welfare of our students. We are deeply touched by Sysmex’s generosity.” There was also much positive feedback from SAP staff and we hope to sustain Sysmex’s efforts in making a positive difference towards realizing an inclusive society.
